Mini PC Update

2026-07-28

About a month ago I bought a HP ProDesk 600 G1 mini PC on eBay for about £40, and I made a blog post about it at the time. I plan to make a full review with benchmarks etc at some point, in the meantime here’s an update on how it’s been performing.

Performance

I haven’t had any issues with performance. Everything I’ve tried to run, can run fine:

The PC came with 8GB of RAM which is nice, I ran MemTest and there were no issues. I actually dropped the CPU when cleaning the PC, but it’s still working fine lol, luckily it’s LGA not PGA. I still haven’t replaced the default thermal paste as I didn’t have any when I was cleaning it, but temperatures sit around 50°C at idle and don’t get that much hotter under load so it’s still pretty good.

Connectivity

I’ve had quite a few issues with bluetooth and wifi. I mainly fixed the wifi issues by turning off power save, but it’s still a bit slower than my other PCs. Note this is likely the fault of the TP-Link USB adapter, not the PC.

Bluetooth has also been annoying, again probably because I’m using a cheap USB adapter. By updating the firmware blob I’ve got it to a relatively stable position. I probably should just stop using a bluetooth keyboard. My headphones work fine.

Other

Noise wise, the PC is pretty quiet. There is a quiet rattling noise from the fan which is annoying but you can only hear it when it’s very quiet. Even light background music covers it up.

I didn’t use the included drive because it was a HDD, every SATA SSD I’ve tried works fine. I haven’t tested NVME/M.2 SSDs, not even sure what type of slot it is.

Not done a proper power consumption test yet, I’ll include that in the final review
